# Torque converter > How much torque is that in other units? Convert between newton metres, foot-pounds, inch-pounds, kilogram-force metres and more. Free torque converter: newton metres, foot-pounds (lbf·ft), inch-pounds, kgf·m and N·cm, for bolts, wrenches and engines, with exact definitions. - Page: https://how.box/conversion/torque/ - Runs entirely in the browser. ## Inputs Answer link: https://how.box/conversion/torque/?v={v}&from={from}&to={to} - `v` (number 0 to 1e15): The torque to convert, in the from unit. Example: `100`. - `from` (nm, knm, ncm, kgfm, lbfft, lbfin, ozfin or dyncm): Unit of v (unit id: nm, knm, ncm, kgfm, lbfft, lbfin, ozfin, dyncm). Example: `nm`. - `to` (nm, knm, ncm, kgfm, lbfft, lbfin, ozfin or dyncm): Unit to convert to (unit id). Example: `lbfft`. The SI unit is the newton metre (N·m): one newton pushing at the end of a one-metre lever. Every unit here is converted through newton metres. A foot-pound (lbf·ft) is one pound-force at one foot: 0.45359237 kg × 9.80665 m/s² × 0.3048 m ≈ 1.3558 N·m. So 100 N·m ÷ 1.3558 ≈ 73.76 lbf·ft. An inch-pound is a twelfth of a foot-pound, and a kilogram-force metre is exactly 9.80665 N·m. The definitions come from NIST Special Publication 811. Torque values in manuals are often rounded, so a converted setting is only as precise as the number you start from. ## FAQ **How many N·m is 1 foot-pound?** About 1.3558 N·m. Multiply foot-pounds by 1.3558 to get newton metres. **Are foot-pounds and pound-feet the same?** For torque, yes: both mean one pound-force acting at one foot. Engineers often write lbf·ft (pound-feet) to tell torque from the foot-pound of energy. **How many inch-pounds is a newton metre?** About 8.85 lbf·in. **How do I convert inch-pounds to foot-pounds?** Divide by 12. For example, 120 lbf·in is 10 lbf·ft. Check the unit carefully before setting a torque wrench. **Does this tell me the correct tightening torque?** No. It only converts a value you already have. Get the specified torque and lubrication conditions from the manufacturer.
