Accessibility statement
Everyone should be able to use these tools, with any device, input method or assistive technology.
These statements cover HowToolbox (how.box) in every language.
Our target
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA, in line with the European standard EN 301 549, and go beyond it where that is practical. We do this voluntarily, for everyone who uses the site.
Status: partially conformant. The site has not had an independent audit, so we do not claim full conformance. The known limitations are listed below.
How we test
Automated accessibility checks run on the site's shared building blocks and on every tool whenever they change. Representative pages are also checked in a real browser at phone and desktop sizes.
Interactive parts are tested with the keyboard and through their accessible names and roles. Charts always come with a data table and a text summary. Controls are at least 24 × 24 pixels, focus stays visible, layouts hold at 320 pixels wide and with larger text spacing, the site's colours are checked for contrast, and motion follows your reduced-motion setting.
Feedback
If something does not work for you, tell us by email at contact@how.box. Describe the page and what happened; we aim to reply within five working days.
Known limitations
- Advertisements and Google's consent dialog come from Google, and their content may not meet these standards. Ads are labelled “Sponsored Links” and hold their space while they load, so the page does not jump.
- The site has not yet had an independent accessibility audit.
- We have not tested the site with real screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack). What they are given (names, roles, headings, landmarks and announcements) is checked automatically.
- The Morse code tool offers an opt-in full-screen flash that can flash faster than three times a second (WCAG 2.3.1, Three Flashes or Below Threshold). It never starts by itself: it runs only in full screen, after a warning every time, never with reduced motion, and Esc, Stop or any press ends it at once. The tool's default signal lamp is small enough to stay within the rule.
Last independent audit: Not yet audited
