How to use

  1. Enter an expression or tap the keys. Choose degrees or radians for angles.
  2. Press = or Enter to keep the answer in this page’s history. Use ans in your next calculation or copy a result.

How it works

Operations follow mathematical precedence: powers before multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Parentheses make the grouping explicit: 2 × (3 + 4) = 14. A postfix % divides by 100, so 200 × 10% = 20.

Sine and cosine describe coordinates on the unit circle. For example, sin(30) = 0.5 in degrees, or sin(π/6) = 0.5 in radians. See OpenStax, Precalculus 2e, section 5.2: https://openstax.org/books/precalculus-2e/pages/5-2-unit-circle-sine-and-cosine-functions.

Answers are real numbers rounded to 15 significant digits, not exact symbolic algebra. ln is the natural logarithm and log uses base 10. Factorials accept whole numbers from 0 to 170. Use 10^n for scientific notation: e means Euler’s number. History holds up to ten answers until you leave or reload the page.

Worked example

What is √(3² + 4²)?

  1. 3² + 4² = 25.
  2. √25 = 5.

The result is 5.

Frequently asked questions

What does ans mean?

It is the last answer saved with = or Enter. Before the first saved answer it is zero, unless a shared link supplies an answer.

Can I use a decimal comma?

Yes. Finnish pages use a comma and English pages use a point. Thousands separators are not supported.

Why does tan(90) show an error?

In degrees, tangent is undefined at 90 degrees. Check your angle mode and the character position shown with the error.

Can I calculate square roots of negative numbers?

No. The calculator works with real numbers, so a negative number has no square root here.

Does 200 + 10% add ten percent to 200?

No. The % sign divides the preceding number by 100, so 200 + 10% is 200.1. Use 200 × (1 + 10%) to increase 200 by ten percent.
