How it works
The day count is the end date minus the start date. Including the end adds one: 1 January to 8 January is seven days, or eight when both dates count. Calendar dates have no clock time, so daylight-saving changes do not affect the answer.
A whole month ends on the same day number, or the last day of a shorter month. Thus 31 January to 28 February 2025 is one month but 28 days. Years are groups of 12 whole months; weeks are groups of seven days. Calendar arithmetic follows Howard Hinnant’s civil-date method.
Working days use Monday to Friday, excluding Finnish public holidays and the customary Christmas and Midsummer eves. The holiday rules are the same as the working-days tool and apply from 1992. This is a calendar estimate, not a statement about your employment contract.
Worked example
How many days are there from 1 Feb 2024 to 1 Mar 2024?
- The end date is excluded: 29 days.
- Including the end date adds one: 30 days.
With the end date excluded: 4 whole weeks, remaining days: 1.
Frequently asked questions
Are the two dates included?
The start is included and the end is excluded by default. Turn on Include end date to count both. Equal dates give zero days by default or one with the toggle on.
Can I add days to a date?
This page compares two dates. The working-days tool can add or subtract Finnish working days.
Does a leap day count?
Yes. If 29 February lies in the selected interval, it adds one day.
Why are calendar months different from days divided by 30?
Months have different lengths. The tool counts whole calendar months, then the days left over.
Which holidays are excluded from working days?
Finnish public holidays, Christmas Eve and Midsummer Eve. Other countries’ holidays and personal leave are not included.
