How to use
- Choose an event, or choose A date and time and enter the date and, if you like, the time.
- Pick a time zone if the moment happens somewhere else, such as a launch in New York. Otherwise your device's time zone is used.
- Open full screen for a big display, and turn on Beep at zero for a short sound while the page stays visible.
- Copy the link to share the countdown. A name you give it goes into the link only if you choose so.
How it works
A countdown subtracts now from the moment you are waiting for. The time left is split into whole days, hours, minutes and seconds: a day is 86,400 seconds, an hour 3,600 and a minute 60. When the moment has passed, the same numbers count the time since it.
Example: from 31 December at 18:30:00 to New Year at 00:00 is 5 hours 30 minutes, which is 19,800 seconds, so the display reads 00:05:30:00. The local time of the target is turned into an exact moment with the time-zone rules of the IANA Time Zone Database, which your browser carries, so daylight saving time is taken into account.
New Year, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day start at local midnight on 1 January, 24 December and 25 December. Midsummer Eve is the Friday before Midsummer Day, which in Finland and Sweden is the Saturday between 20 and 26 June. An event stays on screen during its own day and then moves to next year's.
The countdown uses your device's clock, so a wrong clock gives a wrong countdown. The beep plays only while the page is open and visible; it is not an alarm.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a day sometimes look like 23 or 25 hours?
On the night clocks change for daylight saving time, one calendar day is an hour shorter or longer. The countdown counts real elapsed time, so the days it shows are always 24 hours long.
Does the person I send the link to see the same moment?
Yes, when you choose a time zone: everyone counts down to the same instant. With your device's time zone, each visitor counts to the time on their own clock, which suits New Year or a birthday.
Will it beep if I switch tabs or close the browser?
No. The beep needs the page to be open and visible, and you turn it on again after switching tabs.
When is Midsummer Eve?
On the Friday between 19 and 25 June. In 2027 it is 25 June, in 2028 23 June and in 2029 22 June.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
It starts counting the time since the target. A recurring event stays selected until its local calendar day ends, then switches to next year.
