How it works

Pay for a year equals the hourly rate multiplied by paid hours per week and paid weeks per year. The BLS uses 2,080 hours for a standard 40-hour, 52-week year; here you can change both inputs. At 25 per hour, 40 hours and 52 weeks give 52,000 per year.

Monthly average pay is yearly pay divided by 12. Weekly pay is yearly pay divided by paid weeks, and daily pay is weekly pay divided by workdays per week. At 52,000 per year with 52 five-day weeks, that is 1,000 per week, 200 per day and about 4,333.33 per month.

Count paid holidays and paid leave as paid weeks. Reduce weeks for unpaid time off, including part-weeks when needed. This is a gross-pay comparison with evenly spread daily hours, not a payslip or a tax calculation; actual payroll periods, overtime and deductions differ.

Frequently asked questions

Should I subtract my holiday allowance?

Subtract only unpaid time away when comparing pay received. Keep paid holidays included. To compare effective pay per hour actually worked, you may instead enter working weeks, but the hourly figure then has that different meaning.

Does this show take-home pay?

No. Income taxes, pension contributions and other deductions depend on your country and circumstances and are not calculated.

Why is a month 4.33 weeks and not 4?

A year has 52 weeks, so a month averages 52 ÷ 12 ≈ 4.33 weeks. Multiplying a weekly wage by 4 understates the monthly pay by about 8 %.

Does changing the currency convert my salary?

No. It changes the currency label only. Enter all amounts in the currency you want to compare.

How do I compare part-time pay?

Enter your actual paid hours and workdays per week, and paid weeks per year. Do not use full-time hours unless you want a full-time equivalent.
