How to use

Type the payee's IBAN and the reference number from the invoice.
Add the amount and the due date, or leave either empty for the payer to fill in.

How it works

Finnish invoices carry a bank barcode so that the payer doesn't have to type the payment details. The same details are printed as a 54-digit virtual barcode, which can be pasted into online banking instead of scanned.

The 54 digits are fixed fields one after another: a version digit (4 for a Finnish reference, 5 for an RF reference), the 16 digits of the IBAN after FI, the amount in euros and cents, the reference padded with zeros, and the due date as YYMMDD. In the bank barcode guide's example, FI79 4405 2020 0360 82, €4,883.15, reference 86851 62596 19897 and due date 12 June 2010 give 4 7944052020036082 00488315 000 00000868516259619897 100612. The image is the same digits drawn as Code 128 (Finance Finland, Pankkiviivakoodi-opas).

The tool checks the IBAN's and the reference's check digits, but it can't know whose account it is. Scan the printed code with a banking app before sending invoices.

Frequently asked questions

What is the virtual barcode on a Finnish invoice?

A 54-digit number that holds the payee's IBAN, the amount, the reference and the due date. Pasted into online banking, it fills in the whole payment at once.

Should the reference be a Finnish or an RF reference?

Either works. A Finnish reference makes a version 4 barcode, an RF creditor reference with digits only a version 5 barcode.

Can the barcode be made without an amount or due date?

Yes. Leave them empty and the barcode carries zeros there; the payer then types the amount or date in the bank.
