How to use

  1. Select Start and work on one task until the timer ends. Turn on Sound first if you want a cue at the end.
  2. When the focus session ends, take the break the timer shows. Select Start again when you are ready for the next part.
  3. Change the lengths below if 25 and 5 minutes do not suit you. Use Skip to move on early and Reset to start from the first pomodoro.
  4. Open full screen to keep only the countdown in view. Space starts or pauses, S skips and R resets.

How it works

The Pomodoro Technique splits work into short, timed focus sessions called pomodoros, with a break after each one. The idea is that a short, clear deadline makes it easier to start and stay on one thing, and regular breaks keep you fresh.

The usual cycle is 25 minutes of focus and a 5-minute break. After four pomodoros you take a longer break, generally 15 to 30 minutes. For example, four pomodoros with short breaks between them and then the long break take 4 × 25 + 3 × 5 + 15 = 130 minutes. The timer counts the pomodoros you finish and chooses the right break for you. The lengths are a starting point, not a rule, so change them to suit your work.

Sound needs your permission and only plays while the page is open and visible. When saving on this device is available, the timer and completed-session count survive a reload; Reset clears them. The method is by Francesco Cirillo.

Frequently asked questions

Why 25 minutes?

It is the length Francesco Cirillo settled on for the Pomodoro Technique: long enough to get something done, short enough to keep your attention. You can set any length from 1 to 180 minutes.

Does the next part start by itself?

No. When a part ends, the timer waits for you to select Start. That way a break never begins while you are away, and your sound choice carries on to the next part.

Why did I hear no sound?

Sound needs your explicit permission each visit, and the page must stay open and visible. Switch Sound on before you start; the timer keeps it on for the next parts.

What happens if I skip a focus session?

A skipped focus session does not count as a finished pomodoro. The timer moves on to the next part without adding to your count.

What does Reset clear?

It returns to the first focus session and clears the completed-session count and saved timer.
