Check a bag's height, width, depth and weight against any size limit, with the total L + W + H, a box drawing and centimetres or inches.
How to use
- Measure your packed bag standing up: height, width and depth, wheels and handles included. Add its weight if you have a scale.
- Under Limits, pick an airline or type the limits you were given: the three sides, the total L + W + H, the weight, or any of them.
- Read the verdict: each side, the total and the weight show how much is over or to spare, and the drawing shows where the bag sticks out.

How it works
A bag fits a size limit when each of its sides fits. You may turn the bag, so the checker compares its longest side with the longest allowed side, the middle with the middle and the thinnest with the thinnest. That is exactly how a bag goes into an airport sizer box: upright, in the best way round.
Some limits are a total instead: the length, width and height added up, often called linear dimensions. For checked bags, Qatar Airways allows 158 cm in total on some routes and Delta 62 in (157 cm). Example: a 75 × 50 × 30 cm suitcase totals 155 cm and fits 158 cm; an 80 × 50 × 30 cm one totals 160 cm, 2 cm too much. Inches and pounds are converted exactly: 1 in = 2.54 cm and 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg (NIST SP 811).
Airline limits in the cabin baggage table are read from each airline's own website, with the date they were checked. Airlines change their rules and fares, aircraft and routes can differ, and a full flight can still move a cabin bag to the hold, so check your booking before you fly. Soft bags squeeze a little; the checker measures them as you enter them.
Frequently asked questions
Do wheels and handles count?
Yes. Airlines measure the whole bag, so measure from the floor to the top of the folded handle, and include wheels, side pockets and anything strapped on.
What does 158 cm mean for a suitcase?
It is the total of the three sides, length + width + height. A 78 × 50 × 30 cm suitcase is exactly 158 cm. Some airlines use it as the checked bag limit, for example Qatar Airways on some routes, and Delta uses 62 in (157 cm); an oversize fee often applies above it.
Why does the checker turn my bag?
Because you can: a bag that is 40 cm high and 55 cm wide goes into a 55 × 40 cm sizer on its side. The checker pairs the longest side with the longest limit, which is the most favourable way round.
How big is a 40-litre bag?
About 55 × 40 × 20 cm (44 litres). Litres alone don't tell whether a bag fits: a long thin bag can be small in litres and still too long. The checker shows the volume next to the sides.
Does a size match guarantee that my bag is accepted?
No. Weight, your fare and route, and the airline’s rules still matter. Check your booking before travelling.
